Vandeventer Middle School Orchestra
ALL-REGION ORCHESTRA
What is All-Region?
All-Region Orchestra refers to our music Region 24 that Frisco ISD music programs are a part of with McKinney ISD and Prosper ISD. All-Region is an opportunity for students to audition, and if selected, perform in an elite ensemble with the top students from Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper. Making All-Region Orchestra is something that can be added to a resume as it shows diligence, perseverance, and talent.

Audition Recommendations:
-
True beginner (zero years' experience) - All-Region auditions are not for this level of experience.
-
Non-beginner, advanced 6th graders, and 7th graders - Audition for the Concert Orchestra level.
-
Advanced 7th graders - Audition for Concert Orchestra level unless they made the All-Region Concert group as a 6th grader. The Chamber/Sinfonia Orchestra music is quite advanced and the majority of students participating at that competition level are 8th graders that have prior experience with the All-Region audition process.
-
8th Graders - Audition for Chamber/Sinfonia (hardest music and highest level). 6th, 7th, and 8th graders may audition for the Chamber/Sinfonia Orchestra level; however, the Chamber/Sinfonia Orchestra audition level is the only option for 8th-grade students. As a 6th or 7th grader, it is better to start on the concert orchestra music.

All non-beginner students are encouraged to participate in the All-Region process. 6th and 7th graders in Symphonic Orchestra and all students in Chamber are expected to participate in the All-Region process.
How can I participate?

Students should print All-Region music as soon as it comes out, be practicing daily, attend additional instruction opportunities such as tutorials, and receive private lesson instruction to prepare for this audition.

Disciplined practice sessions include:
-
Checking finger placement accuracy with a tuner
-
Technique work including scales
-
Practicing slowly and carefully
-
Working with a metronome

MASTERCLASSES
Masterclasses are taught by an expert teacher on the instrument and give instruction to the group present. Sometimes it is only one person playing at a time and the audience or other participants learn from the constructive criticism given to the person of focus.

Should I take private lessons to prepare for the All-Region Orchestra auditions?
If you are interested in the All-Region competition process, private lessons are a necessity. The Vandeventer Middle School Orchestra Program is extremely fortunate to have an outstanding staff of highly qualified private lessons instructors. This private lesson program is designed to enrich and further the level of performance of our student musicians. One-on-one individual instruction is essential to a student's success and a large reason why orchestra programs are so successful in Texas.
Private lessons are highly encouraged for every student participating in or looking to be a part of the orchestra program. To remain competitive in the orchestra program, district, and regionally, students and parents should consider private lessons as a necessity. Most orchestra students who take advantage of this excellent opportunity progress beyond the average regardless of their All-Region auditions results. Please refer to the "Private Lessons" tab of this website for further information or contact information on private teachers.

Things to remember:
Nothing should be planned on the day of auditions, except All-Region Auditions. Please do not schedule a private lesson, go to an athletic practice or do anything that might cause you to be late or absent. Showing up late to your audition time will mean you lose the opportunity to make the All-Region orchestra until the following year.
Auditions are "blind" meaning that the selected judges will not be able to see you. They are sitting behind a curtain, while the rest of the students wait for their turn to play the music.
Audition results will be given on the Monday following the audition. Please do not email or contact the director for the results. Additionally, please do not hang around the audition facility for results, as nothing will be posted on the audition day.
If you are selected to be a member of the All-Region Orchestra, you will be responsible for attending ALL rehearsals and the concert which is listed on the Contract Form. If you know that you will not be able to attend, please speak with an orchestra director.
Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and placed in one of the three All-Region Orchestras.
